Red Mountain Law Group Continues to See Growth and Achievements

June 10, 2014

logoIn 2006 two Birmingham lawyers decided to join forces to create a group of attorneys in a nontraditional setting. It would consist of individual firms that would be able to pool collective resources in a shared-space environment designed to keep overhead lower and customer service at the forefront.

Eight years ago when Mike Goodrich and Russell Cunningham started Red Mountain Law, that was the vision – to establish an alliance of independent law firms with a focus on business law to provide the personal attention of a solo practitioner, while maintaining access to the resources of a larger, traditional law firm. It was a unique business model that has proven successful.

Goodrich and Cunningham started out with 4,000 square feet of leased space in The Steiner Building in downtown Birmingham, and soon began to add other individual attorney firms including the practices of Melanie Hahn, DeWayne Pope, Elizabeth Ritter, Brice Johnston, John Steiner, Brandy Lee, Paul Liles and Brooke Everley.

With additional attorneys in the fold, a name change to Red Mountain Law Group (RMLG) was made to better reflect the expanding collaboration of lawyers. And soon the group began to receive recognition in the community, being named as one of the Birmingham Business Journal’s Best Places to Work among small companies in 2010, and in 2011 selected as the overall winner of the Birmingham Business Journal’s Best Places to Work small-company category.

With further growth expected, in December of 2012 RMLG leased larger offices with 6,300 square feet of space in the historic Landmark Center on First Avenue. Within 18 months after moving into the new building, five more individual practices joined Red Mountain Law Group including Hilton Tomlinson, Matt Beam, Vaughn McWilliams, Robert Gardner and Frank Young.

Accolades have continued to be garnered by the majority of individual group members annually including recognition as Birmingham Business Journal Top Lawyers, Alabama Super Lawyers and recipients of AV Preeminent Peer Review Ratings from Martindale Hubbell. And earlier in 2014, Red Mountain Law Group again was named the overall winner of the Birmingham Business Journal’s Best Places to Work small-company category.

Today the group’s 14 member attorneys offer a broad range of legal services including administrative law, general business, employment, intellectual property, trademark, corporate, tax, real estate, estate planning, litigation, securities and private equity law.

“At Red Mountain Law Group, our innovative model for collaboration and serving clients has been a major factor in our growth and success,” noted N. DeWayne Pope, RMLG executive manager. “We are extremely pleased with the achievements, both individually and as a group, we have been able to accomplish in a relatively short period of time. With the added entrepreneurial spirit of all of our group’s members and staff, we look forward to a continuation of these trends in the future.”
