James helps individuals, businesses, and local institutions in resolving disputes. He draws on 20 years of “big law firm” experience, but also developed the capability to handle every case productively and cost-effectively. James has broad experience in a wide range of matters from private arbitrations, to shareholder disputes in state court, to class actions in federal court and to bankruptcy reorganizations. He has significant experience in fraud cases involving complex financial transactions and often will take a plaintiff’s case on a contingency.
James earned an A.B. degree with honors from Princeton University, an M.A. from the University of London, and a J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law with highest honors.
James is recognized with an AV Martindale rating by his peers and is an Eagle Scout. When not practicing law or spending time with his family, James is a U.S. Masters swimmer and regular competitor. James is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and is a 1989 high school graduate of the Indian Springs School.
Business Litigation. James has experience representing individuals, small business, and institutions in all aspects of business disputes, including shareholder disputes, purchase and sale transactions, and dissolutions, from pretrial and trial work to post-judgment discovery and judgment enforcement. James will take a business plaintiff case on a contingency, and has extensive experience handling all phases of such cases, through the pre-dispute, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, trial, post-trial, appeal, asset discovery, and judgment enforcement.
Bankruptcy. As part of his bankruptcy practice, James has experience representing financial institutions, community banks, finance companies and other creditors in bankruptcy proceedings, including motions for stay relief, adequate protection, non-discharge actions, claim objections, lease assumption, and plan confirmation. James also has bankruptcy litigation experience in matters relating to preference actions, fraudulent conveyance actions, and other creditor rights matters.
Commercial Litigation. James regularly represents small business in matters relating to contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, payment disputes, lien claims, and the like.
